TUPELO, Miss. — A recent study from the American Journal of Public Health examined the impact of the Texas Heartbeat Act, revealing that the state’s legislation reduced the number of abortions by over 18 percent. The authors compared data from September 2021 to May 2022, when the Heartbeat Act was in place, to data from September 2020 to May 2021, when the Heartbeat Act was not active, evaluating how the abortion ban impacted different age demographics. The results of this study add to the mounting research that reveals how this legislation has saved the lives of the unborn. “Three separate analyses of Texas birth data in the months following the enactment of the Heartbeat Act all found that the Texas Heartbeat Act has saved over 1,000 lives every month,” reported LifeNews.com.
Walker Wildmon, CEO of AFA Action, the governmental affairs affiliate of the American Family Association, commented on the findings from the American Journal of Public Health, applauding the state of Texas for saving lives.
“The data confirms what every pro-lifer has said all along: restricting abortion will save lives,” said Wildmon. “The Texas Heartbeat Act didn’t just change policy — it changed outcomes. An 18% reduction in abortions is not an abstract statistic; it represents babies, created in the image of God, who are alive today because Texas chose life. The Left and ‘pro-choice’ advocates promised disaster, but the data tell a different story. Pro-life laws work, and they work because they protect life from conception.”
